About us
Nestled in the heart of the Midlands, Copperleigh Trout Cottages offers an idyllic retreat for nature and outdoor enthusiasts alike. Our accommodations comprise the cozy Trout Cabin, a deluxe wooden one-bedroom retreat that sleeps two and boasts unrivalled views of the trout-stocked Mavela Dam, and the spacious Trout Lodge, a fully equipped self-catering unit that can comfortably accommodate up to nine guests, featuring modern comforts and a warming indoor fireplace for those chilly Midlands evenings.
Our property isn’t just a place to stay—it’s a destination. As a fully functioning sheep and cattle farm, we offer our guests a unique opportunity to interact with our animals. Children will delight in the chance to hold and play with baby lambs or goats, depending on the season.
For those inclined towards adventure, the Mavela Dam, stocked annually with trout by the Natal Fly Fishers Club, is a fly fisherman’s dream and is easily accessible from your accommodation. There’s no additional rod or catch fees, allowing you to indulge in the serenity of fishing to your heart’s content. Note, our dam is dedicated exclusively to fly/trout fishing.
Our location also offers opportunities for a variety of outdoor activities. Enjoy a refreshing swim or kayak adventure on Mavela Dam, or explore the farm on a scenic walk. The nearby iNhlosane Mountain is accessible for those who fancy a morning hike, with the starting point just a short five-minute drive away.
Wildlife and birding enthusiasts will be rewarded with the presence of a diverse array of bird species, including the Fish Eagles, rare Wattled Crane, Grey Crowned Crane, Blue Crane, Spur-winged Geese, Yellow-billed Duck, Herons, Spoonbill, Hammerhop, and many others. Additionally, it’s not uncommon to spot Reedbuck, Bushbuck, Duiker, Oribi, Serval, and Otters amongst other wildlife visiting our farm.
At Copperleigh Trout Cottages, we provide more than just accommodation—we offer an unforgettable experience steeped in nature’s beauty. We look forward to welcoming you.
